Scaling & Root Planing
Scaling and root planing is a two-step process that Dr. Q typically recommends for patients experiencing mild to severe gum disease symptoms, including gum recession, bleeding gums when brushing or flossing, and pus forming between the pockets of the teeth. During the first step, he’ll remove all plaque and tartar from the surface of your teeth as far down as the roots of your gums. Then, he’ll remove any hardened pockets of bacteria from the roots of the teeth, which will allow the soft tissue to healthily reattach to the teeth.
Antibiotic Therapy
In addition to scaling and root planing, Dr. Q may recommend antibiotic therapy to reduce the number of harmful oral bacteria within the mouth and help reverse or stop symptoms of gum disease from further harming your mouth. After about two weeks, we may have you come back in for a checkup to make sure the antibiotics are doing their job!
